If you haven’t seen your avid gaming friends the past couple of weeks, it’s because they’ve been holed up at home playing the new Nintendo Wii U.

Now that we’ve finally got our hands on the highly anticipated debut of the gaming giant’s successor to the history-altering Nintendo Wii console, we are ready to present our list of the top 10 Nintendo Wii U games.

 This list contains the best and the most exciting games that you will love to play on Nintendo Wii U.

1)      NintendoLand

If you want to understand what Nintendo Wii U is all about, there’s no better place to start than NintendoLand. The title was designed to highlight the capabilities and possibilities of the console’s tablet and how it interacts with the familiar controller sticks from the original Wii system.

NintendoLand features 12 mini-games, including “Balloon Trip Breeze,” “Donkey Kong’s Crash Course,” and “Takamura’s Ninja Castle.”

2)      New Super Mario Bros. U

I believe it’s an unspoken rule that every time you buy a new Nintendo console, you need to buy a new Super Mario Bros. game. The fourteenth Super Mario Bros title starts off fun, carefree, and relatively easy. As you progress through the Super Mario World, the game becomes more challenging. It offers some new twists, but for the most part, it’s the same old lovable Mario and there is nothing wrong with that.

3)      ZombiU

The horror! Developed by Ubisoft Montpellier for the Wii U, ZombiU is a first-person survival horror game. Use the Wii U touchpad to control your player and do your best to survive the zombie apocalypse in London. Zombie and first-person shooter fans rejoice!

4)      Batman: Arkham City

One of my favorite games of the last couple of years gets a Wii U makeover. Experience the moody and intense world of Batman on your new console. It features upgraded battle suits for both Batman and Catwoman. It’s Batman – what more do you need to know?

5)      Assassin’s Creed III

One of the most celebrated historical action-adventure titles also gets a Wii U translation. Featuring the new hero Ratohnhaké:ton, an ancestor of series protagonist Desmond Miles of Native American and English heritage, Assassin’s Creed III takes place during the American Revolutionary War. This must-own title can be summed up in one word: epic.

6)      Darksiders 2

Unfortunately Darksiders 2 for Wii U is a straight port, not featuring new content, but it’s still a worthwhile purchase if you haven’t played it before. Discover the harsh realities of holy wars, death, and dark forces in this exploration of violence. Gameplay is improved by Wii U’s GamePad – you are no longer slave to that clunky menu. It also comes packed with the five hours of extra gameplay that was released on other consoles.

7)      Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

As much as I think owning a Super Mario Bros title is a requirement, I’ve always had a soft place in my heart for Sonic the Hedgehog. As sad I was that Sega stopped making consoles after the Dreamcast, you can still enjoy Sonic in all his glory on Wii U.

8)      Lego City Undercover

When the Lego toys were first turned into video games, I was pretty skeptical. However, the series has been clever and addicting, and Lego City for Wii U is no exception. If you miss the joy of playing with Legos as a bright eyed youth, bring them to life with Lego City Undercover.

9)      Wii Fit U

Don’t you worry – the game that made mothers everywhere fall in love with video game consoles is back for the Wii U. Wii Fit U delivers on its promise to find new fun ways to get you up and moving. Track your daily activity with the Fit Meter. Michelle Obama would approve.

10)  Jeopardy

If first-person-shooters and action adventure aren’t your speed, you can still enjoy the new Nintendo Wii U with games like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Get the whole family together for endless trivia and showing off the random trivia you’ve collected in your head.
